A New Teacher's Interview

After being interviewed by the school administration, the prospect said, "Let me see if I've got this right:

"You want me to go into that room with all those kids, correct their disruptive behavior, observe them for signs of abuse, monitor their dress habits, censor their T-shirt messages, and instill in them a love for learning.

"You want me to check their backpacks for weapons, wage war on drugs and sexually transmitted diseases, and raise their sense of self esteem and personal pride.

"You want me to teach them patriotism and good citizenship, sportsmanship and fair play, and how to register to vote, balance a checkbook, and apply for a job.

"You want me to check their heads for lice, recognize signs of antisocial behavior, and make sure that they all pass the state exams.

"You want me to provide them with an equal education regardless of their handicaps, and communicate regularly with their parents by letter, telephone, newsletter, and report card.

"You want me to do all this with a piece of chalk, a blackboard, a bulletin board, a few books, a big smile, and a starting salary that qualifies me for food stamps.

"You want me to do all this and then you tell me...

"I CAN'T PRAY?"

I'm a genius!

So... working full time, and part time, and going to school full time = Shauna's a busy girl. I've never been so busy in my life! My grad program is really demanding, but I like it so far. I got scared this week when I went to my discussion post and saw that my prof had RIPPED apart almost every essay everyone had written on the post. So I was a little hesitant on looking what he wrote about mine... until I just checked and saw that he thinks I'm a genius! Now everyone hates people that brag about themselves, but I figure everyone is entitled to some bragging rights a few times a year! This is the post from my prof about my essay:

Yahoo Shauna! Look at this post!!! You neatly tucked in each of these key words! Those key words are triggers - Teaching therapy tools to access deep regions of experience. Look at your insights! "Although it has been this, I find myself reflecting on my beliefs, actions and feelings more deeply than anticipated. I am surprised as to the correlation of these beliefs with the results I see from my students, both good and bad." You got the point of this entire process... :) Thank you!

Whoo hoo for me! I love school :) For now...

Crikey

The Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, died yesterday. I, like so many of you even if you don't want to admit it, was a huge fan. :(
